Program Description

Construction Inspectors monitor materials, workmanship, and building codes that are critical to a building’s structure. Common sense & the ability to communicate effectively are essential traits for success. Areas of study include: Plan Reading, Reinforced Concrete, Structural Steel & Welding, Structural Masonry, Soils Testing and other specialized construction methods of testing and inspection.

Construction Inspection is not for everyone, but for some individuals it is an exciting and satisfying profession. The training classes are academically challenging and applicants must be willing to work and study diligently to improve themselves. The program requires 6000 hours of on the job training, successful completion of 5 training periods and will take about 3 - 4 years to complete.

Additional Information

To apply for this tuition free training opportunity in an exciting and satisfying profession, candidates must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a High School Diploma / GED
  • Possess a valid California Driver License
  • Be a Resident of California
  • Pass entry level vocational assessment testing
  • Be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work
  • Be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to comprehend instructions on the job, in related training classes, and to ensure personal and co-worker safety on the job.

Program Length

The program will require 3 to 4 years for completion. Apprentices must work a total of 6000 hours on the job and are required to attend and successfully pass related supplemental instruction classes and certification examinations as required. Class time is approximately 144 hours per year.
