Program Description

The Operating Engineers Training Program trains Construction Equipment Operators and Heavy Duty Repairmen (HDR). Construction Equipment Operators (CEO) may operate a wide variety of machines, including those that hoist, dig, pave and compact materials. The Heavy Duty Repairman is responsible for maintenance and repair of the equipment on the job site.

Our program is sponsored jointly by the Associated General Contractors, Association of Construction Employers, Engineering and Utility Contractors Association, Industrial Contractor UMIC and Operating Engineers Union.

Additional Information

  • An applicant for the Operating Engineer Training Program must be at least eighteen (18) year of age. There is no maximum age.
  • An applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work.
  • An applicant must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to comprehend instructions on the job and in related training classes, and to insure personal and co-worker safety on the job.
  • An applicant must complete all application forms and provide evidence of legal employable status in the United States of America.
  • An applicant must possess a current, valid drivers license. This license to remain current during the entire term of the Apprenticeship.

Program Length

Once selected for the Apprenticeship Program you will training for 200 hours of orientation. CEO apprentices will complete 6200 hours on-the-job training and HDR apprentices will complete 8200 hours on-the-job training. Apprentices must complete 320 hours of Supplemental Related Training during their apprenticeship.
